Recently, social media influencer and small town specialist Becky McCray wrote a blog post about the value of keeping track of all new businesses that open in your small town. She writes that growth in small towns is often easy to overlook, especially if you have the tendency to see the glass as half empty versus half full. McCray notes that sometimes people only pay attention to really huge businesses that merit town dignitaries being on the scene. However, small boutique shops are still businesses. They still bring their own character to a small town, contribute to the town’s economic foundation, and stand as a site visitors want to see.
Over the last couple of years, there has been a tremendous flow of new business into Historic Marietta. Among some of the new businesses that have opened are:
Emleigh’s and Mama B’s Clothing Boutique
Sugar Maple Boutique
McKenna’s Market and Abigail Birch & Company are hoping to be moved in just in time for the holidays. We are sure we are missing a few businesses as well (you can help us fill in the blanks).
Making a list of newly opened businesses does not just help you keep track of what is happening in your small town, but it also serves as a great reminder of new shops you can explore in order to shop local. Make it a game for yourself and see how many local businesses you can support over a month or over the holidays.
Do you keep track of new businesses here in Marietta? What inspires you to make your list of local destinations? We’d love to hear from you.
